The Travelin' McCourys are Del McCoury's three sons and they play bluegrass in a more modern fashion than their father but equally as talented. They are known to perform as an acoustic bluegrass group as well as an electric group that can jam with other musicians. Ronnie and Rob McCoury make up the core of the band with Ronnie playing mandolin and Rob playing banjo. The two sons have been able to play with and open for many musicians including Keller Williams, The String Cheese Incident, and Jeff Austin. Their sets are usually full of high energy and many of their songs are instrumental which showcase their skills as musicians. Because the Travelin' McCourys are known to be very spontaneous during their performances, no two shows are ever going to be the same.
